Sleep Apnea
Sleep Apnea Treatment | Dexter Dental Studio in Dexter, MI
Rest easy. Breathe fully. Sleep well.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is a common but serious sleep disorder where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep. These interruptions—called apneas—can lead to poor sleep, daytime fatigue, and long-term health issues like high blood pressure, heart disease, and more.
At Dexter Dental Studio, we believe your dental health is part of your whole-body health. If sleep apnea is disrupting your nights, we’re here to help with compassionate, personalized treatment that supports both your airway and your smile.
Signs You Might Have Sleep Apnea
You may have sleep apnea if you experience:
- Loud, chronic snoring
- Gasping or choking during sleep
- Frequent daytime sleepiness, even after a full night’s rest
- Morning headaches
- Difficulty concentrating or mood changes
- Dry mouth or sore throat in the mornings
If these sound familiar, you don’t have to suffer or dismiss them. We listen, we investigate, and we help.
How Dexter Dental Approaches Sleep Apnea
Because we focus on total body and airway health, our sleep apnea treatment goes beyond just symptoms:
- Thorough evaluation
We’ll review your medical history, dental history, sleep patterns, and conduct a comprehensive airway assessment. We look for contributing dental and facial structure issues—not just the immediate symptoms.
2. Customized treatment options
Depending on your condition, treatments may include:
- Oral appliances designed to open the airway
- Dental adjustments or bite therapy
- Lifestyle and sleep guidance
Referral support for CPAP or medical sleep specialists when needed
3. Comfort and compassion
Our dentists know sleep apnea can feel overwhelming. Our space is calm and nonjudgmental. We explain all options, empower you with information, and work with you at your pace.
4. Ongoing support & monitoring
Sleep apnea isn’t “one and done.” We’ll check in, adjust as needed, and help you maintain healthy breathing at night and overall wellness during the day.

FAQs:
Is sleep apnea dangerous if untreated?
Yes. Over time, untreated sleep apnea can increase risks of high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, stroke, weight gain, mood disorders, and impaired quality of life.
Will an oral appliance affect my teeth or jaw?
Modern dental sleep appliances are designed to be comfortable and minimally invasive. We monitor fit, comfort, and jaw alignment, modifying as needed.

It depends. Many dental insurances and medical plans offer some coverage for sleep apnea diagnosis or appliance therapy. We can help you check your benefits.

Yes, we are accepting patients at our dental office! Dr. Sophia Cornish, Dr. Piiamari Bowers, Dr. Taylor Chick, and Dr. Haley Lawrence would love to meet you and make Dexter Dental Studio your new dental home.
Do you accept my insurance?
Insurance can be difficult to understand! That is why our team is happy to run a complimentary benefits check for you. We are in-network with some insurances, but even if we are not 'in-network' with your insurance it does not mean you will have to pay a portion out-of-pocket necessarily. We can file claims at our office for you to submit to insurance as needed as well.
Do you offer Invisalign® at Dexter Dental Studio?
Yes! We proudly offer Invisalign® Clear Aligners. Our team is happy to answer any questions you may have and schedule your free consultation to see if Invisalign® is right for you.
Do you really have a dog at the office? Can he sit with me? Can I request him?
Yes! Yes! and Yes! Uuno the Bravery Assistant is our very own dental comfort dog, helping to bring you ease and serenity during your dental appointments. You can leave your worries at the door when Uuno is near! If you would like Uuno to join you during your appointment, simply let our staff know when scheduling your appointment.
When should my children have their first dental exam?
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all infants be evaluated by a dental professional within 6 months of the eruption of the first tooth. In our office, we are excited to see our littlest patients and help their parents understand the nuances of caring for an infant’s mouth.
